A 10-storey tower may give Wyndham a new identity

A 10-storey tower rising about 36m high is going to give Werribee its first taste of a city-style skyline.

The $47 million tower would feature 100 apartments & top the suburb’s current tallest building – the Quest serviced apartments building – by 6 storeys.

The development named as the RiverEdge development would look onto the Werribee River from a 1664sq m site at 59 Comben Drive.

Approved unanimously by Wyndham council a few days back, the tower (designed by Rothelowman) is going to be a mix of 1, 2 as well as 3-bedroom apartments, with 2 retail spaces at the ground level.

Kate Roffey, currently the Director of City Economy at Wyndham City Council, said that the project would be giving the suburb & municipality a sense of identity & place.

“When you talk about Melbourne everyone thinks of the CBD, so this will be the centre of the west and give it a skyline,” Ms Roffey said.

“This would be the highest building within the Werribee city centre by quite a way at current levels.”

A rooftop residents’ space would be including 100sq m with extensive views.

From the top of the RiverEdge development you can see the Brisbane Ranges from one side, as well as the CBD & the bay from the others.

This development has been called as a catalyst site for Werribee, 1 of 4 development hot spots aimed at driving gentrification as well as driving more people to the area with around $250 million worth of works expected to take place in the future.

“This is part of our plan to gentrify and get a bit of height around the Werribee CBD.”

“We call it a catalyst site because we think it’s a way to drive our future.

“We need to create a reason for people to come here. And that’s why we have asked for the mix of food and retail and amenity building businesses.”

Jarrod Sanfilippo, Burbank Group managing director, said their plans, as well as plans of other developers for the area will be able to soon transform Werribee.

The population is growing rapidly, it is expected to grow by 68 per cent by the year 2036. And the residential spaces are helping the rest grow.

Apartments at RiverEdge will be going on sale later this month, with construction expected to begin mid next year as well as be completed late by 2020.

Another 10-storey tower in Werribee would include a mix of apartments as well as commercial offices; although construction has yet to commence.

Also, a second stage of the Burbank development is going to include over 200 additional apartments, as well as office & hotel space – however its design is yet to be finalised.
